Position Title: Director, Research Integrity and Oversight

Required Qualifications:
• Bachelors degree;
• At least 5 years of supervisory and management experience in research administration, including familiarity with compliance regulations, at the federal, state, and local level

Preferred Qualifications:
• Demonstrate strong competence in research compliance in a large, decentralized research environment;
• Successful management of a high volume compliance operation in a complex environment;
• A collegial, problem-solving style based on personal integrity, professional confidence, and excellent relationship management skills:
• A deep appreciation of and respect for academic values and culture and an understanding of the critical role research compliance plays in sustaining and broadening the intellectual rigor of an elite research university;
• A track record of successfully developing, building, managing, and mentoring staff;
• Proven skills in working effectively and building relationships with faculty, staff, and external partners;
• Ability to build credibility with faculty regarding the importance of the issues of research compliance to their research endeavors;
• Experience implementing new technology to improve both efficiency and service;
• Strong oral and written communication skills;
• Demonstrated skill in problem solving and resolution;
• Understanding of the compliance and risk challenges for researchers and the research mission;
• A participatory management style that models the values of client service, initiative, and collaboration; and
• A strong work ethic and a commitment to achieving stretch goals;

Duties & Responsibilities:
The Director, Research Integrity and Oversight will advise the VPR and provide independent oversight and monitoring of research compliance activities both internally and across the system. Specifically this position will be responsible to:
• Ensure that the University employees are educated in policies, procedures, and legal requirements relevant to research compliance;
• Aid in the development and enforcement of research related policies;
• Provide oversight and monitoring of the OVPR research services;
• Manage the processes and personnel involved in the research integrity and monitoring functions;
• Work with others to coordinate U wide research integrity and compliance functions;
• Develop a culture where members of the University view research integrity and monitoring as reinforcing their activities.

Program/Unit Description:
Over the past decade, the University of Minnesota has developed and implemented several independent research compliance and oversight programs within the Office of the Vice President for Research, all of which have earned a reputation as strong, effective and beneficial programs. However, it has become clear that to maximize the effectiveness of these research compliance operations in the OVPR, it is necessary to have them organized such that their functions can integrate seamlessly among themselves and also be able to interface effectively with the growing network of compliance partners and responsibilities across the campus. To accomplish this, the Vice President for Research has created the Research Integrity and Oversight office which will oversee all OVPR compliance functions and organize them operationally such that they can interact effectively with each other, optimizing the effectiveness of their individual areas of responsibility, and providing the most efficient operation possible given the ever changing and complex regulatory environment.
