Human Research Protection Expert – Annapolis, MD


Alion Science and Technology is recruiting a qualified senior-level subject matter expert in applied research ethics and human research protection programs to support the United States Naval Academy (USNA) HRPP. The USNA HRPP is responsible for ensuring that USNA research involving human subjects complies with applicable federal regulations, DOD directives, and DON instructions and USNA policies.

The Subject Matter Expert/Director’s key responsibilities include:

· Provide subject matter expertise and guidance for the USNA HRPP including the Naval Academy Preparatory School (NAPS) in Rhode Island

· Maintain appropriate and current Assurance(s) for Protection of Research Subjects

· Provide and evaluate training in the responsible conduct of research and human research protections for leadership, the IRB, research personnel, medical staff, faculty, staff, students, and midshipmen at USNA and NAPS

· Assist faculty, staff, midshipmen, and NAPS with addressing human research protections in research protocols prior to and after approval

· Maintain USNA HRPP Policies and Procedures in compliance with all applicable federal regulations, DoD directives, Navy instructions, and state and local laws

· Maintain and support the research review and monitoring process (IRB and institutional) for new and on-going research protocols

· Prepare required reports to USNA leadership concerning the HRPP office and the reviews of research protocol submissions

· Maintain day-to-day operations for a well-organized and efficiently run HRPP office

· Draft and/or edit all memos, correspondence, action packages, documents, reports, and presentations for the USNA HRPP Office.

· Maintain and expand the USNA HRPP websites


Requirements:

· Experience with HRPPs and IRBs

· Ability to interpret and apply HRP regulations

· Excellent oral and written communication skills

· Experience with Navy or Department of Defense (DoD) HRPP
