In response to a growing research program, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center (CSMC) announces a new position of IRB Analyst Team Leader in the Office of Research Compliance. The Team Lead, IRB Analyst team is a professional position working under the direct supervision of Manager, Operations and Education.
The IRB Analyst Team Leader assists management in ensuring that departmental objectives related to the review and processing of IRB submissions are met. Working under the direction of the Manager, Operations and Education, the Team Lead is responsible for evaluating and keeping management apprised of the status and progress of work. The Team Lead identifiers potential issues that may impact processing goals and refers these issues for management’s consideration.
The Team Lead is responsible for providing guidance and direction related to the review and approval of human research protocols; handling more difficult assignments, assigning work among the team members, and reviewing work as needed for training, coaching and mentoring purposes.
The Team Lead develops processes to ensure that departmental standards related to quality and productivity are met. The Team Lead provides input on the performance of IRB Analysts.
The Team Lead assists with and participates in discussions and recommendations related to staff training, mentoring, and discipline.
Job duties include, but are not limited to, the training, coaching and day-to-day evaluation of six (6) IRB analysts in the following areas:
o Protocol review and preparation
o Documentation of review process in WEBRIDGE system
o Identifying most effective path for processing of IRB submissions
o Quarterly review of turnaround statistics, as well as quality indicators of IRB processing
The Team Lead is responsible for identifying IRB Analyst staff training needs and communicating these needs to the Research Compliance Education Team. Related to this area of responsibility, the Team Lead works in conjunction with the Senior Education Analyst and the Senior Compliance Analyst, with guidance from the Departmental Managers, in the development and execution of the Internal IRB Analyst Audit Program.
The Team Lead is also responsible for the initial triage and assignment of IRB submissions created in the IRB Webridge System.
The Team Lead provides support and coverage for the IRB Analyst team as needed.
The Team Lead supports the Education team on projects as assigned, including contributions to support the institution’s ongoing accreditation in human subject protection principles.
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS/COMPETENCIES:
Qualifications include a Master’s degree and 2 years IRB-related experience or 4 years relevant experience in clinical trial, health care, public health, or the equivalent; or a Bachelor’s degree and 4 years IRB-related experience or 6 years relevant experience in clinical trial, health care, public health, or the equivalent. A certification of “Certified IRB Professional” is required.
The incumbent must have detailed knowledge of federal, State, and local regulations and an in-depth understanding of ethical principles regarding the protection of human subjects in research.
The incumbent must have excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills to work effectively with IRB Analysts, Managers, Director, investigators, IRB Chairs, committee members, administrators and federal regulatory and funding agencies.
