The CDC Human Research Protection Office (HRPO) offers a fellowship opportunity to perform critical coordination and communication tasks as a Human Subjects Protection Specialist.
The fellow will work closely with the manager and IRB administrators in HRPO on a daily basis, engaging in activities related to office operations, human research protection program accreditation, and education and consultation to CDC staff.
Specific duties will include some triage and processing of human subjects submissions and inquiries to HRPO, as well as records management. The fellow will also work closely with the manager to develop and organize materials for an accreditation application package. The fellow will coordinate and help design and execute human subjects training activities for CDC staff.
The fellow will work with HRPO to provide one on one and group education and consultation to CDC staff to strengthen human subjects expertise and support an environment of scientific excellence, innovation, and integrity at CDC.
As a professional development opportunity, the fellowship position provides work experience and coaching in audience research, communication strategy development, and message creation and testing. The fellow will have the opportunity to develop and improve skills in public speaking and developing educational and communication materials, and gain knowledge and understanding of federal public health policy and research.
The fellow’s initial appointment will be for one to three years, with the possibility of renewal for up to two additional years.
Desired Qualifications:
Ideally, the fellow will have graduate-level training in health science (e.g., biology, public health) and/or health policy, and advanced training or focused experience in research administration or health policy, and preferably direct work experience in human subjects protections. The fellow will have excellent skills in writing, project management, and interpersonal communication. The fellow will enjoy working in a fast-paced environment, engaging in a variety of different tasks and projects, and learning new skills.
