Western Kentucky University’s Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) is seeking applicants for the position of Compliance Coordinator. The Compliance Coordinator is primarily responsible for planning and directing institutional compliance with federal regulations, state laws, campus policies, and ethical guidelines governing the conduct of research involving human subjects, vertebrate animals, recombinant DNA, and export controls, as well as financial compliance regarding grant expenditures and budget reallocations.

WKU is a comprehensive, state-assisted university with more than 16,000 undergraduates and 2,500 graduate students in the Potter College of Arts and Letters; the Gordon Ford College of Business; the College of Education and Behavioral Sciences; the Ogden College of Science and Engineering, the College of Health and Human Services; the Graduate College; the Honors College, and the Community College. Significant grant activities occur in numerous academic and student support units, including Head Start, TRIO programs, Training and Technical Assistance, Applied Research Centers, the Library, and others. The OSP manages over $30,000,000 in awards and $70,000,000 in proposals annually, and has experienced substantial growth the past several years. Bowling Green is located in South Central Kentucky on Interstate 65, 75 miles north of Nashville, 120 miles south of Louisville, and 150 miles southwest of Lexington. Responsibilities:
* Coordinates and oversees all activities relating to research compliance and ensures compliance with federally mandated and WKU regulations
* Develops and delivers comprehensive compliance training programs to faculty, staff, and students
* Works closely with faculty chairs of the various campus compliance committees
* Monitors research activity that involves human subjects and provides administrative support to the campus Human Subjects Review Board (HSRB)
* Monitors research activity that involves animals and provides administrative support to the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC)
* Monitors research activity that involves biosafety issues and provides administrative support to the Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC)
* Ensures compliance with export control regulations
* Ensures financial compliance regarding grant expenditures and budget reallocations to ensure that current research activities are consistent with those stated in the approved protocols
* Monitors grant project interim and final technical reports and ensures timely submission
* Performs investigations of research integrity allegations when warranted
* Performs special assignments as required such as advising on budgetary matters affecting compliance, writing policy, providing regular and spot reports, and explaining faculty needs and issues
* Monitors high risk areas, performs strategic risk assessments, and recommends necessary controls

Required Qualifications:
* Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university
* Demonstrated understanding of research compliance policies and regulations
* At least two years relevant experience in a related field (e.g., research administration; non-profit management; higher education administration; public service administration at the local, state, or federal government level; etc)
* Ability to plan and teach workshops
* Superior critical thinking, writing, and editing abilities
* Demonstrated software and general office equipment skills
* Excellent verbal and interpersonal communication skills
* Evidence of successful experience in a customer service role
* A high degree of initiative and the ability to work on several projects at once with a minimum of supervision
* A commitment to professional development and ability to travel to national and regional meetings for training, updates, networking, and making presentations

Desired/Preferred Qualifications:
* Master’s Degree from an accredited university
* Evidence of having presented at campus and professional meetings
* Ability to pay close attention to details while detecting patterns and maintaining a vision of the larger picture
* Experience using Banner Finance
* Experience in Web development and design and/or on-line course development
* Membership in professional organizations
* Working knowledge of budgets

Expected Hiring Range: $32,712 to $40,008 (dependent on experience and qualifications) with excellent fringe benefits

Salary Grade: 108 (Exempt)
