 Senior Education Specialist -- New York, NY

The New York University School of Medicine Office of the Institutional Review Board (IRB) is seeking a Senior Education Specialist.

The Senior Education Specialist (SEC) will be a part of a new education and training team. Specifically the SEC will design, assess, implement, and evaluate educational needs and programs to improve regulatory compliance within the NYU SoM research community.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Evaluate currently existing education programs to determine effectiveness.
• Develop a continuous comprehensive education program for IRB Members and IRB staff.
• Develop a monthly education bulletin for IRB Members
• Coordinate production of educational materials and maintain any web-based learning modules.
• Assess and analyze learning needs of the IRB Members and the IRB staff
• Develop recommendations for new educational modules to improve the existing IRB education program and to further meet the needs of the research community;
• Develop measures to assess the effectiveness of the IRB education programs.
• Work with education and training team in the development of conferences, workshops and web based education and training
• Other functions include but are not limited to, working with education and training team on special projects including quality improvement and assurance; the development and distribution of a HRPP Newsletter and the development of educational and guidance materials for research personnel and committee members; ongoing support for the existing programs, work alongside and serve as back up for the other Education and Training Specialist and participates in AAHRPP re-accreditation tasks.

The SEC reports to Associate Director. The SEC will also serve as an IRB Member and as an expedited reviewer. As an expedited reviewer the SEC will, when necessary, conduct review of expedited and exempt review submissions.

NYU School of Medicine includes the Post-Graduate Medical School, founded in 1948, the Skirball Institute of Biomolecular Medicine, the Sackler Graduate School in Biomedical Sciences, and the Center for AIDS research, which is one of 13 NIH/NIAMS-designated centers for AIDS research and which has one of the nation's largest programs of clinical trials evaluating drugs to treat both HIV infections and cancer.

QUALIFICATIONS:
BA/BS; 1-2 years of experience and knowledge directly related IRB work in an academic health center or medical school, knowledge of applicable federal regulations related to IRB and clinical research; demonstrated administrative skills; must be able to work independently with minimal supervision; excellent written and oral communications skills; excellent customer service skills. Certification as an IRB professional (CIP) is highly desirable or will be required within 12 months of employment. Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, and advanced computer skills are required. Experience in the design or customization of education programs and knowledge of a significant body of scientific research terminology and processes as well as a solid command of human subject regulations and policy are desired.

The ideal candidate must possess a high degree of independent judgment, proactive abilities, discretion, superior organizational, analytical, time management, multi-tasking and interpersonal communication skills. Excellent verbal and technical writing skills and proficient use of computer and relevant software and database applications (IRB Software, MS Word, PowerPoint, etc.) are required. Three to Four years experience in research and/or IRB regulatory work is preferred.

CERTIFICATIONS:
Certified IRB Professional (CIP) required (or will be required within 1 year of employment)
