The Research Office invites applications for a full-time (1.0 FTE), 12-month, fixed-term Institutional Review Board Coordinator (IRB). Reappointment is at the discretion of the VP for Research.
The IRB Coordinator will assist the IRB Administrator in managing the privileged and confidential institutional review and approval process of proposed research activities involving human subjects to protect their safety, rights, and welfare.
The Coordinator performs highly complex duties to facilitate the review and approval process, such as the use of independent judgment in interpreting and applying relevant federal and state laws, regulations, and institutional policies and guidelines; assist the IRB Administrator in instructing IRB chairs, members, and researchers on the regulations and ethical principles essential to the review process; and provide assistance to faculty, staff, and student researchers on the regulations and on preparation of applications.
This position requires a flexible person who has experience in an IRB office, can learn the specific program functions quickly, who is highly skilled in interpersonal relationships, who is demonstrably skilled in professional oral and written communication, and who is able to deal effectively with high volumes, rigid deadlines, and frequent changes. Proficiency with the MS Office Suite is required.
Minimum Qualifications:
• At least 2 years prior experience within an IRB office OR a combination of experience working in an IRB office and a Bachelor's degree which could include but not limited to Public Health or Policy, Political Science, or an Arts or Sciences discipline with a research component.
• Currently holds or must be able to obtain certification as an IRB Professional within 24 months of hire.
• This position requires a person who can learn the program function quickly, who highly is skilled in interpersonal relationships, who is demonstrably skilled in professional oral and written communication, and who is able to deal effectively with high volumes, rigid deadlines, and frequent changes.
• Familiarity with research ethics and methods.
• Knowledge of federal regulations involving use of human subjects in research.
• Ability to interpret regulations, apply regulations to written protocols, and convey information verbally and in writing to faculty and staff.
• Ability to set priorities and manage time effectively.
• Ability to perform multiple tasks at any given time with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
• Diplomacy and customer service.
• Independent initiative.
• Ability to work with all levels of employees in a respectful and supportive manner.
• Highly proficient with MS Outlook, Word and Excel, with a working knowledge of MS Access.
• A commitment to help maintain a positive, productive and healthy office environment.
Salary: $40,000 - $50,000 (relocation negotiable)
