Duties:

Reporting to the Senior Vice Provost for Research, the Director for Human Research Protection develops and implements University policy and procedures for the function of the University's multiple IRBs, and ensures compliance with all federal and state statutes and regulations on protection of human subjects. Specific duties include, but are not limited to: Act as advisor to Sr. Vice Provost for Research and other University officials on human research regulations, ethics, and compliance; Maintain AAHRPP accreditation; Represent IRB through membership on University, national and local committees, attend related events and meetings; Serve as spokesperson for University on ethical and regulatory issues; Oversee IRB budget;; Supervise regulatory and ethical review of over 4500 protocols; Serve as voting member of IRBs with signature authority for IRB related actions; Supervise staff, including hiring, conducting performance evaluations, establishing priorities and deadlines.

Qualifications:

MA/MS plus 5-7 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience; certification as an IRB professional (CIP) strongly preferred; previous experience directly dealing with IRB and human subject research, preferably at a director level; detailed knowledge of applicable federal regulations related to IRB and clinical research; previous supervisory experience; excellent oral and written communications skills; strong computer skills; strong customer service skills; previous budgetary experience preferred.
