The Research Compliance Officer will work directly with the Associate Dean for Research and play a key role in ensuring compliance with regulations governing research and integrating multiple compliance domains within the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. These domains, include conflict of interest, human subjects and animal research, faculty and student responsible conduct of research, and academic ethics, HIPAA, and export controls, among others. This position has extensive interaction with JHSPH faculty, staff and students as well as interaction with university-wide compliance groups.
Specific duties include, but are not limited to:
Staff the Conflict of Interest (CoI) Committee, conduct preliminary reviews of disclosures, develop management plans, and implement the electronic disclosure system. Serve as compliance officer on the IRB committee dedicated to expedited review of human subjects protocols, brief members on relevant regulatory issues, and administer clinical trials database. Assist in management of inquiries and investigations of potential Scientific Misconduct and Academic ethics violations. Disseminate information to faculty and students regarding Responsible Conduct of Research Guide and Academic Ethics guidelines. Serve as a liaison to integrate activities and determinations of offices within the School including IRB, ORA, and the General Counsel. Conduct administrative reviews and approvals of research impacted by HIPAA and educate faculty and staff about the JHSPH HIPAA policies and procedures. Additional duties involve monitoring and granting access to animal facilities in School, monitoring of student research with respect to appropriate IRB/ACUC approvals, and coordinating export controls as needed.
Qualifications: Requires JD and two years of experience required in managing regulatory compliance issues, preferably in a university setting. Masters degree considered with history of exceptional relevant experience.
Excellent written and oral communication skills. Familiar with Microsoft Office software and online database applications. Independent judgment and action required in the position.
Ability to sit at computer for long periods of time.
