Director, Human Research Protection Program
Reporting to the Physician-in-Chief, this position is responsible for the initiation, development, implementation and evaluation of all compliance, operational and administrative management activities related to the Human Research Protection Program (HRPP). Oversees management of the function, office operations and services of the Institutional Review Board (IRB) and HRPP and ensures compliance with federal and state regulations governing human participant research. Develops, coordinates, and conducts education for HRPP and IRB staff, investigators, and research community, monitors compliance with ethical and evaluative techniques, reviews and approves new policies, and maintains approved Federal-Wide Assurance (FWA) and accreditation through the Association for the Accreditation of Human Research Protection Programs, Inc. (AAHRPP). Includes a faculty appointment to the University of Connecticut School of Medicine.
Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of five to seven years of IRB experience required; advanced degree with two to four years’ supervisory experience strongly preferred.
Must be a Certified IRB Professional (CIP) or obtain within one year of hire. Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills with the ability to compose and present complex information to all levels of personnel. Must have knowledge of and experience with human subjects protections regulations, ethical guidelines, and AAHRPP accreditation standards; experience at an AAHRPP accredited organization and with IRB relating to children preferred. Strong leadership, interpersonal, problem solving, and collaboration skills and working knowledge of electronic data management for IRB’s required.
