Job Title: Program Assistant
Location: UMDNJ, Newark Campus, Newark, NJ
Responsibilities: Under limited supervision of the IRB Director and Assistant Director, provides a high level of management and administrative services within the IRB. Duties include the following: Responsible for the administration of IRB board meeting(s).Drafts correspondence that conveys IRB deliberations and contingencies for approval of research activities involving human subjects. Proof and edits IRB correspondence. Responsible for oversight and mentoring of junior staff. Provides guidance to Staff Assistants (including, but not limited to, proofing and editing IRB correspondence.) Assists other office staff as necessary. Serves as a liaison and provides education to departments as assigned. Provides consultation, assistance, and dissemination of information regarding the review process. Works in partnership with the IRB Director, Assistant Director and others to develop written guidelines to improve communication and understanding of human research requirements.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in health sciences is preferred. Two (2) years of related experience in a business office, government agency, university setting, or research environment is required; three (3) preferred. Must have demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the IRB process. CIM, CIP or equivalent certification is preferred; may be obtained after hire. Solid PC skills including thorough knowledge of MS office functions and electronic database tracking systems This job requires a person who is knowledgeable about human subject protection, is skilled in interpersonal relationships and in oral and written communication, and who is able to deal with high volumes and rigid deadlines. Familiarity with research ethics and methods and the ability to conduct independent literature research are required. Computer literacy is an essential skill and attention to detail is required.
