Alion Science and Technology seeks a Human Research Protection (HRP) Specialist to assist the Department of the Navy Human Research Protection Program with monitoring of over 45 institutional-level human research protection programs within DON, policy development, and education and training.

DON HRPP is a headquarters-level program responsible for ensuring that DON-sponsored research involving human subjects complies with applicable federal regulations, DoD directives, and DON instructions. DON-supported research is conducted in the US, at overseas locations, and in the civilian sector and comprises over 2,000 research protocols.

The HRP Specialist’s key responsibilities, as a member of the DON HRPP team, include:

• Reviewing DON institutional HRPP policies and procedures for compliance with applicable regulations and policies

• Conducting reviews of locally-approved research protocols and IRB meeting minutes for adherence to and effectiveness of subject protections as part of quality assurance and improvement

• Participating in assist visits and site visits to assess institutional-level HRPPs and to provide training and assistance

• Contributing to DON HRPP policy development

• Assisting with continuous quality improvement by preparing reports, recommending corrective actions, and contributing subject matter expertise to the policymaking process.

Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 5 years of direct experience with HRPPs, IRBs, and/or research compliance. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
• Comprehensive knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply Common Rule and FDA regulations required.
• Strong communication and writing skills required.
• Problem solving and analytical skills necessary.
• Highly desirable: Experience with Navy or other DoD research
• Highly desirable, but not required: Certification as IRB Professional (CIP)

Position may require domestic and/or international travel.
