The Indiana University Office of Research Administration, http://researchadmin.iu.edu/index.html, invites applications for the position of Director of the Human Subjects Office The Director oversees the daily management and operations of the university-wide Human Research Protection Program. The position, located on the IUPUI campus, manages Human Subjects Office staff on both the Indianapolis and Bloomington campuses, as well as providing assistance and guidance to the IU regional campuses. The position is responsible for establishing, maintaining, and continually improving the policies, systems and procedures for the review, approval and continual oversight of the use of human subjects, or their PHI, by researchers affiliated with the University through the University IRBs, facilitated review processes, or through contracted IRBs.

This leadership position is responsible for directing and ensuring the University's compliance with international, federal, state, and local rules, regulations and ethical principles as they relate to operations involving protocols, and related submissions, associated with the use of human subjects in research. This role also involves compliance efforts involving the use of PHI in research activities (HIPAA), and ensures that research at the University involving human subjects is conducted in a manner which protects the safety, rights, and welfare of all subjects.


Qualifications:
Bachelor of Arts or Science degree required; Master's or advanced degree preferred. A minimum of ten years senior administrative experience in regulatory compliance and research with human subjects is required. Certification for Institutional Review Board Professionals (CIP) preferred (may be substituted for some of the requirements above). Must have expert knowledge of regulatory and agency requirements for the ethical conduct of research with human subjects and quality assurance programs. Familiarity with other relevant regulations for the use of biological agents, radiation, animals, conflicts of interest, misconduct, and other relevant principles.

Significant supervisory experience required. Must have experience with Coeus IRB electronic system or other comparable human subjects electronic system(s).
