JOB TITLE: IRB Analyst, Committee On Clinical Investigation, Children’s Hospital Boston

DEPARTMENT: Clinical Investigation Committee Office of Research Administration

SUPERVISOR: Manager, Committee on Clinical Investigation

Coordinates and implements the daily activities of the Committee on Clinical Investigation to ensure Hospital compliance with all applicable state and federal regulations for the protection of human subjects participating in clinical research. Develops, participates in, coordinates and directs education, training and quality improvement activities for human subject protection program.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: In conjunction with the other Committee Coordinators and under direction of the Manager, coordinates and implements the daily activities of the Committee on Clinical Investigation (IRB) for all assigned departments. For assigned departments, reviews incoming protocols, continuing reviews emergency requests, amendments and revisions for completeness and compliance with committee standards. Serves as a resource to investigators, responding to questions on preparing and submitting applications and reviewing policies and procedures. Participates in providing educational training sessions for research staff. In conjunction with Director and other coordinators , develops, recommends and implements policies and procedures to enhance efficiency of committee operations. Reviews grant applications involving use of human research subjects for compliance with agency certification requirements. Supports the Director on other issues pertinent to the implementation of human subject regulations. Oversees the maintenance of electronic automated record-keeping systems to monitor reviews of human subject protocols.

Work requires the knowledge of theories, principles, and concepts typically acquired through completion of a Bachelor's degree and at least 3-5 years of administrative experience, preferably in an IRB or clinical research setting. Knowledge of research administration, institutional review boards, or human subject protections required. Work requires the analytical skills to resolve complex problems requiring the use of scientific, technical and ethical principles. Work requires the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to work as part of a team. Ability to multitask and use electronic protocol management system. Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills essential.
