Duties & Responsibilities Independent pre-review of IRB applications, including: review and evaluation of protocol submissions including risk assessment, review and assessment of review category (i.e. not human subjects research, exempt, expedited and full committee studies) in accordance with federal regulations, review of grant applications, recruitment, consent and study procedures, and all study materials to be used with study participants. Independent assessment and determination of whether proposed activities constitute research involving human subjects or exemption from IRB review. Review of submissions within the role as IRB member, and participating in convened IRB meetings as applicable. Pre and post review communication with Investigators, including coordination and/or validation of investigator responses to conditions for approval. Some database entry, assistance with meeting agenda and documentation of final board decisions through meeting minutes. Education and outreach to the University and community about research involving human subjects including federal and University policies and requirements.
Basic Qualifications Bachelor's degree and background in human subjects research, or 2-5 years experience with IRB administration as a coordinator or similar level. Tact, patience and excellent written and oral communication skills required for interaction with faculty, other University units and within the office.
Additional Qualifications Bachelor's degree, high degree of organization and ability to handle multiple tasks at once. Strong analytic abilities to make assessments of submissions and apply federal regulations and University regulations to submissions and research within the scope of the Human Research Protection Program. Ability to work with minimal supervision within a strong team environment. Ability to prioritize and clearly communicate timeline expectations to constituencies. Must complete and keep current required University training on research involving human subjects. Certified IRB Processional (CIP) certification or attainment of certification within one year of eligibility.
